Title: keep the classics & add a volvo
Post by: cardriver on May 11, 2012, 02:24:51 PM
Hi i'm a new member. I would like to see the classic interface where you need to unscrew each bolt to change parts :)
I would like to see a Volvo added .. an old 240 for example.

Looking forward to this game

Wonder if they were as safe back then as they claim to be nowdays...

I would love to see all sorts of european cars in the game, such as volvo, ferrari and so on...
but I doubt they were commonly used in the street racing scene in USA in 1972.

Also adding non-american cars would spoil the mood that made sr 1 and 2 iconic.

yeah that crossed my mind too, i don't know what decade this game will take place in .. and wether it's all american cars or not . but they could make volvo found under sales / import .. or something :)

i think some imports would be good but only high end tuners and collectors would have them not street racers maby there can be an underground pro racing like in nfs underground 2 that could make it work once you get into the game a bit

It is all American and takes place in 1972 before the oil embargo. I have mentioned before if the game is completed an addon/mod could be made with a set of European cars.

There could be some options to include european cars... Maybe some kind of elite underground car league.

Or perhaps "The King" could drive some kind of exotic european sports car (some rich kid that borrows daddy's exotic european sports car).

I still think that the main focus should be on the american cars though.

Thats just ridiculous it would make more sense to have European addon. Hellmark has always said no euro cars because it is in America, I only agree if only because we could have extra "campaigns". Maybe a king who has a Porche towards the end of the game (dates wise) that one could make since. IRL i read some stories by real people that talked about how they raced porches but, it wasn't till them till the mid 70s.

You might be right that it belongs in an addon... We might initially have the following addons:

- European
- Australian

the addon allows you to even have euro/aus maps too

That actually seems like a good idea. Have them add-on-style, like with TORCS.

when i say addon i mean a whole mod. Like total conversion that changes the tracks and adds whole slew of foreign cars. Perhaps the mod could work through some "mods" option on the main menu. Instead of starting a new game with the traditional games you could just select said total conversion mod.

Or maybe just have the ability to load and unload mods at will with a menu, with the mods themselves being folders full of stuff, placed into an appropriately named folder somewhere in the SR3 folder, like "C:\etc\SR3\Mods\VolvosAndStuff".

Thats pretty much exactly it but, instead of switching it on of your could play the mod or the regular game as well as turn non total conversion mods on or off, or something along those lines

Well.....the reason a 1980's Volvo 240 would spoil the mood is that it's not representative of the time and place.  A Mustang SVO or Shelby GLH would probably be irritating too, even if they would be nice for another game.  Redline was one such game that I wanted to build these for and never got to it.

However, the reality is that VW Beetles and Transporters were very common in 1950's-1970's America, especially in California.  A 1974 Porsche 930 Turbo would be going too far, but a 356 (or very early 911) would be representative, and would give the opportunity to mod the Beetle or Transporter, provided both were counted as being from the same manufacturer.

Also, nobody has said whether an A/C Cobra would be appropriate.  A 427SC originally cost $7000, making it expensive, but comparable to a Corvette L88.  Besides, it was also the most famous work of Carroll Shelby.  The Mustang Cobra was named for it, after all, not the other way around.

i have done the research i've read eye witness and accounts by the people who raced both in the city and muholland drive. the fact is there was only a few guys porches and VWs and even then they still didn't really show up or becoming more common in street racing scene till just after street rod 3.

Back then porches were expensive muscle cars were the hot ticket and every one wanted to turn their VW in to a dune buggy.

i did have an idea multi player could continue after multi player in the following years. or you know it we could just make it a DLC or addon, or whole other game on the same game engine.
