Efficiency? Running out of gas? Towing?
« on: March 20, 2014, 07:42:31 pm »
1. I may be a filthy casual, but I never noticed a correlation between fuel consumption and engine upgrades in the original Street Rod. How did fuel consumption work?
2. What happened in the original games when you ran out of gas? I don't think I ever had that problem.
3. Should we include some way to transport your street-racing machine from A to B without inducing part wear or using up gas?

i think the originals made you go to the gas station first or just didn't show thew towing. I think it's a reasonable idea but, also think if you get towed you should loose some money to since a tow costs money but, maybe if far enough in the game it could be free (by random chance) as if it were a favor.

That makes sense. Also, real quick: despite the interface making fillup procedure obvious, I was always kinda bugged that SR1 (not sure about SR2) would charge you for full-service if you were really slow about it.

Yeah; just get a car with anything but a full tank of gas and go to the gas station. I don't know what stage is required for the guy to run out of patience, but I know for a fact that putting the filler in the tank and leaving it there is a good way to do it.

do you need to leave it in there for x amount of time or does he charge full service no matter what?

Sorry I took so long to respond, I've been busy! Anyway, you have to wait ~20-30 seconds with the filler in the gas tank.

Sorry for reviving a old post but this was not mentioned ...There was nothing mentioned in the post about this Real life issue that can happen with drag cars.

So if you are running low on fuel but you you choose to race. Your car can start Spluttering, Pinging, Hesitation,Backing fire from low fuel pressure fuel starvation, car starts running lean etc... (This Normally eats up spark plugs)

So if you decide to Race with a low tank of gas your car in theory is lighter but if the stretch of road is too long you do so at your own peril

not if you put baffles in the tank and a little vented tube on the breathers tubes in carburetor throat

Not sure what baffles are I think we call them moth balls.
On that topic.  What about fueling a d fuel additives?  Toulene, xylene, racing fuel,  avgas, methanol etc...

Also any chance we can warm up the tyres/ do a burnout to warm up the tyres.....

Performance-enhancing burnouts? I approve.

a baffle is a divider wall that helps with fuel sloshing around in the tank. with out the fuel is free to move about in the tank which is bad because when you stomp the gas and the car shoots forward the gas slams again the back of the tanks and when it does that if it's not full it dips BELOW the fuel pick up tube and the fuel pump sucks in nothing but, air for a second until the fuel levels backs out which causes sputtering and loss of power. Something similar happens in the throats of the Holley style carburetors too when where sloshes out of the breather tubes and down the in to the intakes the drowns/floods the intake with too much fuels and causes a rich condition which also robs power.

Here is a picture of the baffles i'm talking about.
