STREET ROD 3 IS NOT DEAD YET.

Yes, look at the date on this post. March 2022. It's not an old or bumped post, this is live people!  ;D

We currently have at least one, *maybe* two developers working part time on this beloved game. Can you help us out any way, either as a Unity/C++ coder, a 3D modeler, general US classic rod enthusiast, or just a huge fan of the original games? Then please join us on our Discord channel at https://discord.gg/XTmB4EQn today and introduce yourself!  :D

We the development team look forward to seeing you all there soon!  ;)

Howdy sports fans.

Just a quick note to let you know that our sister site, Social Deviancy, has been updated and is now open to the public again. If you're a lover of free speech and not a fan of censorship or moderation, SocDev is the site for you. We look forward to seeing some of you over there maybe. Cheers!

News / The time has come - 3D modeller/artist needed!
« on: August 23, 2012, 07:00:19 am »
Okay devoted fans and wannabe developers, the time has come - WE NEED YOU!

We are currently looking for a 3D design artist to help kick off the new release of Street Rod 3. We need somebody who meets the following criteria:-

  • Experience with 3D graphic design, modelling, texture editing, etc.
  • Willingness to work closely with the coding team to implement your high quality work into the game's framework
  • Familiarity with, or the ability and willingness to learn, the Irrllcht world editor
  • AVAILABILITY - You MUST be regularly and freely available to discuss the project with the development and admin teams, via IRC (or the IRC chat application built into the SR3 website), at least once a week to begin with and leading up to possibly once a day when things start to take off
  • Ability to be contacted both online and offline (chat or email), either by remaining logged into the IRC channel at all (or most) times or providing an email contact address that will be checked at least daily
  • Impeccable English skills. If you want an example of what is NOT what we want, see any of cdoublejj's posts on the forum =)

Please post on this thread and tell us a little about yourself and why you'd like to work on SR3 as a 3D graphic artist. Please be aware that at this time this is a NON-PAYING position. Until such time as the SR3 project receives some funding from donations, Kickstarter, or some other method, all members of the development team are working for the love of the Street Rod series in their spare time.

Now post! =)

News / DONATIONS
« on: May 25, 2012, 08:58:15 am »
A new user approached me in the chat room today, and asked me how and where he could donate to the SR3 project. This is a very good question, as since we switched to a whole new development and administrative team, nobody has offered to donate until now. I know there used to be a donate button on the old Sourceforge page of the now obsolete alpha version of the game, but god only knows whose account that goes to, I can only assume one of the previous admins who are no longer involved with the project. Don't use that. =)

Anyways, to the point: If you're interesting in donating financially to the Street Rod 3 project - and of course, who wouldn't be? ;) - for the time being please make your PayPal donations to klofhelm@fifthdimensioncomputing.com . This is, for the time being, THE ONLY way to ensure that the money will be received by the current administration and spent on development of the game and project. When megariffer finally reappears in chat, we will discuss the possibility of putting a user-friendly "Donate Now!" button on the site, but this will just be for convenience - it will still be a PayPal payment to the aforementioned address, just in friendly one-click format. =)

In the foreseeable future we will probably introduce some rewards for cash donators, maybe things like SR3 t-shirts, bumper stickers, fridge magnets, or for serious donations, perhaps even your name put somewhere in the game or something cool like that. As the new release of SR3 comes along, I will think about this some more and discuss it with the team, maybe they have some other good ideas to encourage and reward donations to the project!

Thanks for listening, chiiiiiildren! =D

Development / Multiple OS Compatibility
« on: May 24, 2012, 08:18:13 am »
Hey all,

I was hoping to put a poll up here, but either this forum software doesn't support polls, or I'm too stupid to work out how to make one. Either way, I guess you will have to give your opinions in standard reply format. =)

There have been quite a few questions and suggestions lately as to what the cross-OS compatibility of SR3 will be. Obviously the game is primarily being designed for PC/Windows, but depending on which engine we go with, may or may not be able to be cross-platformed to other systems. What I wonder is, what do you, both developers and fans, really want to see?

Please pick ONE (or more if you must) from this list.

"I want to see SR3 developed for Windows and additionally:-"
  • Mac/iOS
  • Linux/Unix
  • XBox360
  • PS3
  • Nintendo Wii
  • Android
  • DOS =)
  • Other..?
Please explain which is most important to you and why.

My personal answer would be Mac, followed by Linux. I have no interest in releasing SR3 for console systems unless it's practically free and almost effortless to do so. PC games should stay PC games. But that's just one opinion. =)

What's yours?

General Talk / I'm Excited!!
« on: April 26, 2012, 09:19:48 am »
I've just been playing a little bit of Street Rod 1 & 2, courtesy of the DOSbox pack that megariffer uploaded to the Downloads section of the site the other day. I must say, it really got me in the mood for some Street Rod 3!! I'm terrible at racing games (I can't even finish Mulholland Drive or The Aqueduct in SR2!!) but I love building and tinkering and retuning the cars... I could play drag races all day at $50 a pop and eventually set up the second best car in the game, but The King is not interested in drag racing, he wants a real race for his pink slips, and I haven't got the skills!! =(

I'm wondering folks, what are you most looking forward to in Street Rod 3? The 21st century graphics? The traditional look and feel of the original games? The extra cars available? Or something else entirely? Post here and let me know! =)
