Title: Cars you'd like to see ingame, if only to point and laugh.
Post by: Maxaxle on November 15, 2013, 08:36:54 pm
Since the game is set in the '70s, I have at least a few suggestions.

AMC Gremlin:

AMC Pacer:

Ford Pinto, since an AMC hater I am not:

Classic Mini Cooper, because it's not at all meant for drag racing:

Well the mini isn't happening that's a European thing. if any of those other cars so up, it'll be LOD models parked on the side of the street. Also you know what that might not be half bad idea, seeing cars like that parked on the side of the street or in the corner of the dinner parking lot. i don't think there would be very many since at the time they were brand spanking new.

Sr3 is and has always planned to be muscles cars only, mostly main stream ones at that. there will be rare muscles cars too but, the chance of finding them will be slimmer. also how many cars and how many rare one may come down to man power to make all the models.

EDIT: also remember there will plenty of road racing in SR3. rather should be. Aqueduct racing and road racing like in SR1 and 2 are planned. There was also talk of back woods dirt road racing on the old forums. which given the right circumstances could work in the game and make sense story and game play wise but, it would need the man power to make all the maps and tracks.

Well....I just posted elsewhere that SR3 will need entry-level cars like the Falcon, although if this will be a 1970's-era setting then a Pinto (V-8 compatible) or a Chevy Vega (V-8 compatible at least in SR3) would definitely be a good idea.  It also seems like a Chevy Nova and a Dodge Dart should be included as well, maybe as a tiny step up from a Falcon, Pinto, or Vega.  Both the Nova and the Dart, after all, were frequently hot rodded, and sometimes still are.  Remember also that Gremlins were also sometimes hot rodded.  I suppose with the right paint and striping they wouldn't look too terrible.  A Gremlin isn't a Pacer, after all.   :)  Don't get me into having Mp3 support for the 8-track.    ;D

not sure 1970 grocery getters would be hacked up and hot rodded by 72. at the moment any really comment basic muscle car would do development purposes. I admit seeing an Gremlin trying to race a big block v8 muscle car would be funny for all the 2 second it was in the review mirror.  :D

Well...the key word is.....Street Rod.  I know what you're saying.  The whole point of a muscle car was to give you a head start, but that was if you had the budget.  Getting an old pile of junk and hot rodding it to the point of absurdity was another thing you could do.  This is why it would be good for the old cars from SR1 and SR2 to make a reappearance, as obviously a hot rodder might prefer them for their bigger engines, for less money than a cheap new car.  The Plymouth Belvedere we were admiring yesterday would be a good example (see below).

I'm actually interested in building a Vega to see what kind of power-to-weight ratio would be possible.  In addition, while the later Vegas are ugly, they would be out of the time period anyway.  The early ones I like, even if a 4-cylinder Yenko "muscle car" is kind of funny.  Actually, that could genuinely be part of the plot.  Some of the characters could be nerds with Vegas and Pintos.  This game is supposed to be a deliberately stereotypical American thing, right?    :D

On one final note before I get to a related question, one thing that some early hot rodders did was choose obviously slow cars for the shock value.  Think of the old T-buckets or the hot rod Willyses racing around, or the hot rod Model T and Model A delivery vans.  Of course, the other option would be to bring back the Falcon, which might be more realistic.  SR2 had it, and it was actually a pretty good car to start with.  That's actually realistic, too.  The original Mustang was just a rebodied one.

On a related note, yesterday I showered praise on a 3D modeller (I've forgotten his name, but I know he was here) who did the Belvedere, the Dodge Dart, and the Barracuda, along with some engine blocks.  Why is it that I can't find the post now?  Am I just too tired (I worked all night last night on REAL work)?  I'd really like to see that stuff in the game too.

HA!!!  I just found this on YouTube, and it's not the only one!!!  :D

I've insinuated that we should have some flathead Fords, but I was laying off since the focus of SR3 will be the late muscle car era.  I was also going to suggest a Maverick, but I figured that would be too cheesy, although it's true that a lot of hot rods have been built out of them.  For that matter, there was a GT 302 that was available in Mexico (at least, maybe also in America).  The Buick GS400 is an interesting idea too, as is the Riviera.  There weren't any Buicks in either of the original Street Rod games, but some of them were always popular hot rods.  I wouldn't mind seeing a 1965 Electra 225 or 1953 Skylark (or Roadmaster) as well.  If I were to add to your list, I would push for a Charger Daytona, as there wasn't any in SR2, but it was also one of the fastest true muscle cars, if not the very fastest (although the Camaro ZL1 may have been marginally faster off the line).

I know this game is only in America, but I would however love to see some Australian muscle in this game. Things like Ford XR-XT sedans, XA,XB or XC sedans and coupes or XW-XY sedans. Or even some Holden Monaros. Even if they were only really rare cars, as long as you could get them.

I suggested a short while back that we use an addon system that would work as such:
1. You grab a singular file, probably a .zip or .rar or other compressed format.
2. You put the file, intact, into an addons folder in the game directory.
3. Optional: You "activate" the addon ingame.

i quite like the idea of sequel, probably under different time that takes place in the modern day with all of the cars, American, jap, European, Italian... all of them. also there would be way more available car modifications in game. maybe it could be a DLC or something.

Hey, since when is the game going commercial? Also: DLC isn't evil or anything, but a standalone "expansion pack" would be nicer; maybe it could stand on its own but could "upgrade" the original game by adding to the car and track lists?

Bring extra cars and tracks out in updates. And when the game gets out there and more people own it, you could have a poll every few months (depends how popular it gets) of 5 or so cars, and the one with the highest amount of votes gets made and then comes out in an update.

Hmm, yeah. Alternatively (or even simultaneously?) we could have a fansite exclusively for add-on cars and tracks.

why even go that far, just incorporate steam workshop.

That would work even better. My idea behind having a poll on what car should be made next was based on that not heaps of people know how to make a car than can be incorporated into the game, unless there is some sort of program that could be used to make it easier.

The only issue is that we'd have to get it incorporated or whatever with Steam.

Mod managers do exist for certain games (GTA San Andreas for example), so that could work.

Steam Greenlight for getting on steam.

With unity being more popular and the fact you program in it, with java or C probably means integrating steam support should very well be plausible.

The only issue with Greenlight is that you need to go commercial IIRC.

That seems like a no-brainer to me.  We'll need a website for updates and technical support anyway.  Should we just use this site?  A second one as a backup might be a good idea, but it seems like this site should be kept up indefinitely after the release, right?

Yeah, but it wouldn't hurt to decide on an overall format for the site, or at least a NAME for it. Maybe even look into domain names?

I'm with CJJ on this one. The streetrod3.com site is for all things Street Rod 3, including ongoing development, support, addons, etc. It won't just become defunct once we launch. It will adapt, with forums and support for the ongoing development and maintenance of the game.

Yeah i'm not as active and take way too long to do things i'm not even sure if i can dev any more but, as other original member shyed away form SR3 as life and jobs relationships advanced i'm always willing to break of a few dollars form income even when i don't have any.

suffice to say, ST1 said it, we are still here.
